A Note About the Design Concept:
Gray moves episodically forward and backward in time among a series of real locations.  In addition, there are internal monologues involving one or more of the characters.  Because the stage is too small to physically isolate the real settings (Laura’s apartment, a waterfront skate park, a city park, a parking lot, a street)  in separate locations, the convention of projecting an image on the back wall to define both the physical location and the fact that the play was in actual physical space rather than “mind space” was established.  In that way, abstract set pieces could serve as a part of all the locations.  As a “skate punk” the curve of a skater’s half-pipe is Pack’s visual theme.  Because Pack invades all aspects of Matt and Laura’s life together, the curve is repeated in all the set pieces and thus all the locations.  When the characters are in mind space there is never a place-indicating projection and the colors are distinctly non-natural.  Each character had a signature - cool blue-green for Laura, amber for Matt, and blood red for Pack.
